Restoring ReadingA simple pair of reading glasses can make such a difference in someone’s life. Glasses are unavailable in rural parts of Zambia and we were touched by the stories on our last trip how people are unable to help their child with school work or read their bible due to age related deterioration in vision. We are testing sight and giving out glasses to those in need. Sporting and Educational Equipment for Primary Schools
We support primary schools selected by the host government by donating sporting and educational equipment. In 2019 we donated sporting equipment to Uyoba School in Zambia. Despite the condition of the playing fields and courts the students are extremely talented and athletic and were delighted with the new equipment. Thanks to Rowley Family, Shuttleworth Family, 5 Sports and Jannali Netball Club for kindly supporting the program with donations of netball & soccer equipment. While we were there we performed health checks on just over 1000 children.
Birthing Kits
All pregnant women are given birthing kits. The kits are made up in Australia by our volunteer midwives. Each kit contains a cord clamp, a piece of baby clothing, nappies, sanitary pads and a birthing sheet. |
Programs from previous years include:
Roll Back Malaria - distribution of mosquito nets to pregnant women and children under 5 - supply and installation of insect screening to the mothers shelter at St Lukes Hospital Kamweshya Curriculum - printing and binding of primary school curriculum for teachers at Kamweshya Primary School who were previously working without access to the National Curriculum. |
